Fargesia is a cold-hardy, clump-forming bamboo originally from the mountain forests of China, where it’s a favourite food of giant pandas. Where should I plant my umbrella bamboo?
It grows well in sun or partial shade, though it appreciates a little shelter from harsh midday sun and cold, drying winds, which can brown the leaves. Give it moist but well-drained soil. It’s excellent for screening, hedging, or as a striking specimen in a large, sturdy pot.

Bamboo likes a steady supply of moisture.
